We are proud to present our 8th Cabaret and Burlesque meeting. It started off small and keeps getting bigger every month and is getting a life of it's very own now. We are very pleased to be back at the wonderful Madame Jojos. We love it and if you know the venue I'm sure you do too. It's going to be our regular meetup venue one Thursday a month from here on in. This meet up is VERY special because we have a theme: Roaring 20s. It is our first ever joint meetup with the fabulous and maybe a little crazy London Fancy Dress Meetup group. So gents you are mostly dapper with shiny shoes possibly gangsters probably wearing a hat. Ladies: tassles on dresses, sparkles, feathers, diamante chokers. It's going to be delightful. Do come along by 8pm so we have enough people to get the Talk to a Stranger half hour going at 8.30 before the show starts. PLEASE PLEASE upload pictures of yourself onto the meetup site with a short description of why you've joined us and what you like about Cabaret and Burlesque. We want to recognise you and have some interesting and silly chats. We are still in the process of confirming the pre-meetup dance class and acts for the show. So far we have Mike Coffey, The London Magician, the band Tamer and the one and only Dickie Beau for your performance delight. But we will be bringing you a full line up by early next week. So welcome to a featherweight 2008. We look forward to meeting you folks hugs Cathy and Bridget (aka Vivacious Vi) xx

Hey everybody. This is very very very last minute this time. But it's going to be good so I hope you can squeeze it into your diary and please please (serious begging), tell your friends so even though we haven't got our act together this month we'll still have a good crowd down there. We're trying out another fantastic West End venue: Punk in Soho Street a large club with decadent furniture, oversized prints and apparently it's a celebrity hang out too. But I've only heard about Kelly Osbourne going there! We may be having a taster performance/far games improvisation class from Remy/ Imprology from 7-8pm which I'll let you all know if it's happening over the next day or so. We open doors at 8pm with our Talk to a Stranger networking half hour from 8.30-9. The show this month is It's a Punk Christmas, so feel free to dress in either or both themes if you like :) We have burlesque from Alaska Blue, Miss La La Lovette, Heather Sweet, Barbie Dhal and The Stuttgarts Delight Magic from Mike Coffey the London Magician and character comedy from Edwards Hands. Followed by a mix of punk, sleazy rock and roll, showtunes and more until late with none other than the Dirty Bitch DJs See you there with sparkle and safety pins. your hosts Cathy and Bridget aka Vivacious Vi www.myspace.com/velv etlondon Door charge just £3 before 10, £5 after.

Good morning lovely cabaret and burlesque friends. Get ready for a pretty damn fantastic night this coming Thursday the 22nd November at none other than the newly refurbished Madame Jojos. We start with a taster burlesque class from 7-8pm with Gerard Simi of the Burlesque Factory. We have only 5 places left so hurry and RSVP to velvetlondon@btinter net.com. Cost for the class is £7. The Meetup starts from 8pm. We will be doing the Talk to a Stranger networking to get you all mingling. We've have a fantastic bunch of interesting, talented people and you should all get to know each other better. The show this month is hosted by Mister Meredith. We love this guy already. He is a kitch comedy singer songwriter who writes and performs ironic, romantic and sometimes filthy songs about love sometimes involving sailors, cowboys and daleks. Yes folks we are dealing with a slightly twisted mind here. We'll also be delighted with burlesque performances from Tallulah Mockingbird, Miss Rose Thorne, Beatrix Von Bourbon and female to male trrranny burlesque from the amazing Lazlo Pearlman. Plus musical delights from Melody Spires and Tracey Tamer. And we don't end there. The Ditch Bitch DJs follow with sleazy stripper tunes, punky easy listening and film sountracks. Followed by...wait for it...we are priviledged that the famous award winning Lady Luck Club are paying us a visit from 11.30 until 2am to give you all a burst of their very own brand of 30s swing and leopard lounge grooves. You won't be able to stop your feet from tapping. Just £3 before 10, £5 afterwards. So put on your kitten heels and feathers ladies and shine your shoes gentlemen. See you all next Thursday xxxx

The next Cabaret and Burlesque meetup is coming. Sorry for the delay this month folks! We have a fantastic new west end venue so I hope that more of you will be able to make it along. The Green Carnation on Greek Street is a Oscar Wilde themed combo of modern kitch cool and flockwallpapered chandeliered glamour and we have exclusive use of the ground floor bar from 7pm to 2.30am. We are changing the format of the events a tad. Every meetup will now have a guest host who will be involved in choosing the acts for their meetup. For this meetup we have the one and only Lord Freddy Valentine. He is a spangley feather boaed superstar in the making. More details on the lineup of Freddie's show soon. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PERFORMING FOR THIS MEETUP OR ANY OTHERS, GET IN TOUCH. There will be a pre-meetup burlesque class from 7-8pm followed by Talk to a Stranger where we get all you lovely burlesque and cabaretesque people talking. There will be business ideas, collaborations and friendships born for sure. After the show we are soo honoured to have the one and only Chaz Royale DJing for us. He's an international burlesque hero and if you haven't been to one of his events. Why the hell not? See www.myspace.com/velv etlondon. (befriend us, their are lots of great people on there already) A gathering of all cabaret and burlesque performers, wannabee performers, promoters, show producer, photographers, filmakers, musicians, journalists and enthusiasts. The evening will start with an optional random speed networking session to get everyone talking followed by performances from anyone who wants to. I hope this monthly get together will be a great opportunity for new performers to try out their acts in a supportive environment. Also an opportunity for performers we don't know or know of to audition for inclusion in the monthly Saturday night show at the same venue. Anyone who wants to perform, can perform, just let me know and we can talk about sorting music and anything else you need to do your thing. People promoting other burlesque events are welcome, it's a small world and we should all be allies. Tanya Sleeman is friend and partner in the new Velvet event is well known in the burlesque scene as Venuss Envy. She is a professional dancer who has recently been teaching courses for the Ministry of Burlesque. She may do a turn if I ask her nicely :) Venue details at www.rembrandts.org.u k. Gorgeous venue have a look. (also available for private hire) See you there Cathy xx
