This Meetup was suggested by David Nuttall.

The following was suggested by one of our members, David Nuttall, who has agreed to be the host. I will personally be overseas at the time, but it promises to be a great evening!

I would like to host a Meetup outing to The Wam Bam Club at The Cafe de Paris, 3 Coventry Street, Piccadilly Circus, on Saturday 27 June 2009. Doors open 7:00pm. Cost £25 advance, £40 on the door. I know Lady Alex personally and we would be most welcome. I have been to three or four of these events since January and find them most entertaining. There's a small private bar at the back where we can socialize with the artistes. See internet for more details and ticketing arrangements. Best Wishes, David

David will be standing outside wearing a suit, black bowtie and holding a meetup sign. He will also give his mobile number to all those who RSVP 'yes'.

They're all set to continue their collective successes creating an evening of their unique blend of song, dance and comedy rooted in the burlesque, music hall and cabaret tradition at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, one of the original remaining Music Halls in London.

He supported music legend's Marlena Shaw and Carleen Anderson and performed at Ronnie Scotts, & ran the hugely successful Ruby Slipper, in the East End's chic Loungelover.

Also featuring two very special guest stars: Anil Desai (Goodness Gracious Me) with his phenomenon from the Edinburgh fringe festival, Rajesh the Bollywood lounge singer, head wobbling, sitar twangin', poppadom smashin' entertainment! Like a milk chocolate Sammy Davis Jnr. Next a burlesque star, she's a hot totty; Red Sarah famous for her flaming tassles, cartoon comedy characters. Hi there,

May I firstly thank all of you for your messages offering practical and moral support in the attempt to relaunch the Burlesque and Cabaret Meetup Group.

I am pleased to say that one member, May, is very happy for other members to use her existing event as a forum for their performances. She organises the monthly StripLite event at the London Stone pub, which is a pretty amazing basement venue that is full of old medical equipment (and a few skeletons!), located opposite Cannon Street station (http://www.myspace.com/striplite). There is a raised performance area.

The next event takes place on Friday 30 January.

Each edition of StripLite has a theme, and this one is particularly interesting – ‘Dictators I have loved’. The concept is that performers and audience members dress accordingly. So this is your chance to become Hitler, Himmler, Tito, Castro, Eva Braun or maybe even Imelda Marcos! Other themes for the year are on their website.

All Meetup Group Members get in for a reduced rate of £4, for this night of burlesque, performance, films, music and free cupcakes. To ensure you receive this reduction, please RSVP on the Burlesque and Cabaret Meetup Group website.

Anyone who wants to perform at this or a future event should contact myself by 24 January on neilwatson7@hotmail.com with details of the performance.

StripLite is described as an intimate venue with a friendly crowd and is developing a reputation as a monthly meeting place for the alternative community. It is a great place for new performers to debut and for existing performers to try out new acts in front of a sympathetic and appreciative crowd.

Best wishes from Neil

Hi everyone,

In recent times the Bethnal Green Workingmen’s Club has become something of a hub for retro-styled entertainments of all descriptions. OK, so it’s not quite straight-ahead burlesque, but they have been known to include some excellent burlesque performers on the bill.

On Saturday they are holding the monthly ‘Cream Review’, described as a ‘very special evening of creamy fun and frolics, Get messy to the swing, jive, classic jazz and Latin sounds.’ This is your chance to don your favourite ‘utility’ gear and bop around to everything from Johnnie Ray to Tito Puente!

Delights include some variety acts and free tea and cakes served by the Tea Monitor Girls.
Unfortunately, we have no link with the organisers, so the standard admission of £8 applies. But a splendid time is guaranteed for all! The website is http://www.workersplaytime.net/

I will be outside at 8.30pm, so please RSVP and I will meet you there.

Best wishes from Neil

Kitten Von Strumpet - transports us out of the 1940s to a burlesque space odyssey.

Elisa Belle - This sexy chantress will sing classic 1940s songs to entertain the troops.

Sophia Blackwell - where brilliant intelligent performance poetry meets burlesque

There is a one hour taster blues dance class from from Simon Selmon of the London Swing Dance Society from 6.30-7.30. Places are limted to confirm yours email velvetlondon@btinternet.com. Class £7.

We won't be doing Talk to a Stranger networking at this event because there's just too much entertainment but we hope you'll talk to strangers anyway in the open and friendly spirit that we've always encouraged at meet up.
